poor mrs einstein
my romantic past has made me very good at dealing with the question "how do you deal with a partner that's a complete idiot?"
but i realize now that i am faced with the wonderful question of "how do you deal with a husband that is a genius?"
and its not flattery, as i've told him.
he knows it. his parents know it. i know it, and the Good Lord knows it. its just a challenging conversation to have because our twisted culture has ingrained in us the ability to confront our failings, but not our successes.
i was a bright enough kid to have had a taste of some of the challenges bruce is facing in his life; but fortunately i was never cursed with excessive intelligence! i think maybe God made me just bright enough to truly appreciate bruce when he came along, and to support and encourage him on his extrordinary journey - to realize that i was blessed enough to be partnered with a man who is so genuinely gifted in so many ways; and to be a loving partner to someone that is really that special.
and yet, as he pointed out, there is the fact that when you are this gifted, there is little that challenges you. that in itself will be interesting, to say the least.
there may come a time when i begin to bore him, and while i pray that is never the case, i will always be on the lookout for things that will challenge him; while guarding against the libran tendency to create "challenges" for their own sake.
i love the fact that we can even discuss this issue; and that he sees the dynamic, and is willing to be part of a relationship that fosters both of us on our respective paths; and supports us each at our own level. i love the candor in him, the self-awareness, and the courage that it takes to talk frankly about both the good and the bad. i love that he doesn't shy away from topics such as "ok, lets discuss the fact that you are a bloody genius, bruce", and that he seems willing to begin to explore himself and find out just what he is capable of.
he is a wonder, is my heart, and a blessing to me and to everyone that he meets; and i adore him simply for who he is. and the fact i get to be married to him is the greatest blessing of all.
